Fort Bend ISD Turns 50! - Legacies Remembered

Fort Bend Independent School District is 50 years old and golden anniversary events and activities are planned throughout the 2009-2010 school year. The 50th anniversary logo incorporates the theme for the 2009-2010 school year — Fifty Years of Promising Futures, Building a Legacy of Leaders. Since the consolidation of the Missouri City and Sugar Land school districts in April 1959, students and teachers in the classroom today continue to benefit from the impact of the positive actions of many of the District’s leaders throughout its rich history. We want our students to be leaders in the 21st century.

Anniversary Events and Activities

  • The theme will be used throughout the school year on the District’s website featuring a timeline with history lessons, educational resources and historical photos. Since almost half of our campuses are named after national, Texas, and local leaders, you can read more about their legacies on the website.
  • On August 5, the celebration officially began at the 2009 Fort Bend ISD Leadership Institute featuring Dr. Timothy Jenney, Fort Bend ISD Superintendent, and Dr. Doug Reeves, founder of The Leadership and Learning Center.
  • Fort Bend ISD held it's 50th Birthday Party on September 30. The birthday celebration was an informal come and go reception. Remarks were made by the Superintendent and Board President.
